"Film grain or granularity is the random optical texture of processed photographic film due to the presence of small particles of a metallic silver, or dye clouds, developed from silver halide that have received enough photons. While film grain is a function of such particles (or dye clouds) it is not the same thing as such. It is an optical effect, the magnitude of which (amount of grain) depends on both the film stock and the definition at which it is observed.

When the particles of silver are small, the standard aperture area measures an average of many particles, so the granularity is small. When the particles are large, fewer are averaged in the standard area, so there is a larger random fluctuation, and a higher granularity number.

In digital photography, image noise sometimes appears as a "grain-like" effect." (c)

Track Name: Perambulations
Hi. Let me tell you the story about my perambulations. I woke up this morning and tried to remember where I was. I remembered that suddenly the area around me became dark. I watched for lantern's beam and insects swarms were creeping on the walls. I opened the door of my room and saw the mirror in front of me, which was covered with violet veil. I passed through it. I remembered how I was running through a long corridor. The walls were painted in yellow and covered with photos of people without faces. I met a tall man, who wore a green costume and had a camera instead of his head. He photographed me and gave me my photo which was like the others on the walls around us. I remembered how I walked upstairs, but fell down. I fell into bathroom which was filled up to the top with soap water. Huge pieces of cotton wool and polyfoam floated around me. I saw how the toy ship was sinking in the distance. Rag dolls were cuting themselves, filling their bodies with floats, and then sewing them up. They were smiling. All toys were cheerfully laughing. I thought to help them, but suddenly something like flexible, sticky feelers quickly dragged me underwater. I regained consciousness in an aquarium without water. Its dry sandy bottom round me was covered with a blackened coins. I took a few with myself. Above, over my head in the air the jellyfishes were slowly floating. Thin algae were fluttering in the wind...

I remembered that I was in a train. The plump woman in a pure white apron and with a sponge instead of her head turned to me. She was selling soft drinks. I felt that I am thirsty, and bought one drink. I drank it and dozed off. I remembered that I opened my eyes and saw that I was surrounded by the crowd of empty cupboards. They were creaking by their doors and slowly approaching to me from the all directions. I noticed that I am in the middle of dump of an old broken furniture. There are fragments of chairs legs stained in red under my feet, and a dirty sofas upholstery which was greedy devouring by fat worms. I came nearer to one of the cupboards. Its gloomy interior was spreading a smell of decomposition and decay. I noticed a rope which was seen in the dark, and gave a pull on it. The old yellowed skeleton fell down on me out of the cupboard. When fell on the ground, the skeleton gone scat, and the skull rolled under my feet. All of the cupboards around me began to creaking loudly by their doors. One of them swallowed me. I remembered how I was shining with bright orange light, and swarms of insects were creeping to me from the walls and ceiling. I remembered how I was watching for myself, being behind the glass. I remembered that my face was erased. I remembered that I had a sponge instead of my head, and I was absorbing apple juice with it. I remembered how I was hiding in the cupboard and rubbing my bones of its walls. I wanted to be free. Where was I?
